Google launches a tool to test your Android app for accessibility issues

If you’re building an Android app and want to ensure it’s easy for anyone to use — include people with visual, physical or age-related limitations — Google’s got just the thing.

Its new Accessibility Scanner, available for free and compatible with Android devices running Marshmallow 6.0, goes through every screen in your app to detect elements like text and buttons that could be adjusted so they’re easier to interact with.

Universal Design (UD) is an approach to design that increases the potential for developing a better quality of life for a wide range of individuals. It is a design process that enables and empowers a diverse population by improving human performance, health and wellness, and social participation (Steinfeld and Maisel, 2012). It creates products, systems, and environments to be as usable as possible by as many people as possible regardless of age, ability or situation.
