Accessible Taxis Make Their Way Across the US Nation

alttext

Accessible taxis have been making headlines over the United States. There are fifteen new taxis that are now available to Maryland’s Prince George’s county wheelchair users – a milestone 25 years in the making. One advocate, PG county resident Ms. Patricia Sanders, has been fighting for more accessible transportation options in the southern Maryland area for years. She was involved in an automobile accident 30 years ago, and is ecstatic about the new taxis.

Universal Design (UD) is an approach to design that increases the potential for developing a better quality of life for a wide range of individuals. It is a design process that enables and empowers a diverse population by improving human performance, health and wellness, and social participation (Steinfeld and Maisel, 2012). It creates products, systems, and environments to be as usable as possible by as many people as possible regardless of age, ability or situation.
